15 tips to make the bedroom more comfortable
1.) Natural materials
Enrich your bedroom with natural materials and the atmosphere will be even a little warmer. Almost everything in the bedroom can be replaced with natural wooden materials. A bed made of solid wood, a pot made of wicker, a lamp made of rattan, a table made of bamboo or wall pictures made of plywood. The advantage is that you can combine them without fear of being out of taste. With natural materials, and especially with wood, the only rule is to stick to its shade. Of course, as far as you can, keep them in their original colour so that they retain their authenticity and warmth. And besides, there are plenty of recycled solutions, such as a bedside table made from wooden boxes or a bed made from recycled pallets, which are creating a big buzz at the moment and have a really beautiful natural yet modern feel.
2.) Wood
Whether your bedroom is too small or too big, incorporating wood on the walls or in the space is the perfect way to add a cosy feel. No other material gives off a warmer feel than wood, and especially in a bedroom that's designed for curling up and relaxing. Available in a range of variations and colours, from the walls to the floor to the furniture, wood adds character and authenticity to the room it's in. Wooden panelled walls, wooden headboard, wooden mirror, chair, wooden decoration, bench, lamps or a bed... Wood in your bedroom can really be everywhere and it's a safe bet.
3.) Bedding
Decorative and comfortable bed linen is synonymous with all sweet nights. With a wide choice and a multitude of designs or materials, the most complicated part will be deciding on the most suitable set for a cozy atmosphere. The choice is yours and it's all just a matter of taste. Some people like natural linen material because of its quality and sustainability others prefer cotton because of its simplicity and affordability. Whatever material or design you prefer, it's important that they are comfortable for you - after all, you'll be in their embrace every day, so make your choice count.
4.) Pillows
Pillows, pillows and more pillows! Lots of pillows! There's nothing more tempting in this world than a bed overflowing with pillows. The piled pillows on the bed already visually invite you to rest and welcome you with open arms. There is one cardinal rule in my household: "You can never have enough boxes and pillows." Don't be limited by the number of pillows of different sizes because this decoration is definitely one of the best choices to make a space cosier and bring soft comfort. Colour or material matching with the bed linen or duvet can help you choose them. In particular, choose materials that are pleasant to the touch to enhance the cosy and comforting aspect of the whole.
5.) Carpet
Don't have a rug on the floor in your room? Now is the time to invest in this piece that is as decorative as it is practical. In the spirit of the times, it is said that rugs should be scattered around the house to add a certain softness. Depending on space and your preference, you can place the rug under the bed so that it protrudes from each side or place it in front of or next to the bed. You'll especially appreciate the carpet on the floor when you get out of bed in the morning and feel its softness with your bare feet.
6.) Colours
Choosing the right colours to influence the atmosphere you create is a fundamental principle of successfully decorating your bedroom. The big trend is green in all its possible shade variations and this is mainly due to its well-known calming effects. Another very popular colour is white - which is synonymous with peace of mind and adds a real softness to the bedroom. For some, white is a very cold colour and therefore the ideal solution is to combine it with beige and natural materials. Darker shades, on the other hand, will add a dramatic cosiness. Of course, the more bright colours you use and the more colours you combine, the more cosy the room will look. It's down to personal preference but be careful not to overdo it with the combinations.
7.) Hanging decorations
If your bedroom walls are empty and cold, try decorating them with hanging wooden decorations in different motifs and colours. You can go for a pleasant classic in a symmetrical mandala design, or you can brighten up the bedroom with other designs such as animals or different collections made up of several pieces of individual paintings. Another very popular and well-known design is the tree of life, whose symbolism refers to cohesiveness (especially of the family) and whose branches suggest that one is never alone. The roots draw energy from the earth - and the branches in turn receive energy from the sun.
8.) Wall clock (without ticking)
There are only two groups of people - those who find the ticking of a clock soothing and lulling, and then those whose ticking clocks drive them mad. If you belong to the latter group, we have good news for you, as all our analogue clocks are tick-free. The hands of the clock just slide slightly and the motor makes a faint monotonous sound, but you can only hear it when you put it to your ear. Whether you choose a wooden clock, a large colourful 3D clock or a Plexiglas clock - none of them will disturb you with any ticking anymore.
9.) Lights
Too bright or too dim light will negatively affect the atmosphere in a room. To keep your room warm, take care of its lighting by placing a few lamps around the room. If a high footprint dominates your bedroom, pendant lights are ideal, as they both enhance the feeling of sanctuary and fill the space between the floor and ceiling. The ideal solution is to match ceiling lights with lighting on bedside tables or with a standing lamp in the corner of the room. If your bedroom is smaller and you want to evoke a real sense of cosy atmosphere, the best option is to reach for spotlights that can control the intensity of the room's lighting.
10.) Bed
The heart of the entire bedroom is undoubtedly the bed and therefore deserves special attention. It is usually placed right in the middle of the room with the headboard close to the wall. A nice bed with a quality mattress and nice bed linen or a luxurious bedspread and decorative pillows will soften the space and make the overall impression of the bedroom more cosy.
11.) Mirror
If your room lacks light, a large mirror placed towards the window will increase the natural light in the bedroom several times over, while visually enlarging the room. In addition to the practical properties of a mirror, it will also serve as a beautiful decoration, so don't be afraid to reach for large and designer pieces that will fill the space in the room and brighten it up at the same time. When choosing the perfect design, also pay attention to the frame material so that it matches your furniture or flooring, for example. Of course, you can also choose frameless mirrors, which are applied directly to the furniture or the wall and give a very clean and sleek impression.
12.) Curtains
Cover empty and cold windows with curtains or chunky drapes. Exposed bare windows that open up the entire space are one of the biggest reasons when a room doesn't feel cozy and comfortable. Curtains will also help to mute the sound so you can sleep a little more soundly.
13.) Different decorative items
In addition to dominating your bedroom, cosiness is guaranteed to be conjured up with small decorative or keepsake items. Different photos on the bedside table or a photo gallery on the wall, statuettes on the shelves or other cute little decorations anywhere in the room will make it feel more inviting. Bet especially on keepsake decorations, which will always put a smile on your face when you look at them and will also make you sleepily calm down at the same time.
14.) Plants
Get yourself a couple of green housemates - if you place plants in your bedroom, it will undoubtedly be both more welcoming and calming. Plants contribute to our well-being, with some species even attracting positive energy. They evoke life, nature (the colour green) and therefore take an active part in making the room feel cosier. To add to the atmosphere of the room, do not hesitate to literally multiply them in every corner of the room (be careful not to turn the room into a jungle). Vary the species too, so that you benefit from a variety of plants and also more attractive colours and shapes.
15.) Candles
A lit or extinguished candle instantly creates a soothing and cosy atmosphere. Like a small decorative lamp, you can place it on a bedside table or shelf. If you are worried about an open fire in the room, the perfect substitute are the very modern light garlands, which have the gift of creating a really warming and cosy atmosphere.
Most importantly though, if you want to relax and get a good night's sleep in your new cosy bedroom, is a regular bedtime routine. It may not be part of the actual design, but it's a way to use your space to relax, with bedtime rituals and relaxation methods such as reading, meditation or simply free time away from the screen, work or other responsibilities.
